Beginning the journey
Starting the registration journey for chaplaincy in New Zealand involves several steps over three years.
To begin the process, you need to contact our Convenor of the New Zealand Healthcare Chaplaincy registration board.
The Convener will then send you a registration manual, which includes all the necessary documents and information needed for full registration.
From here, an approved supervisor must be selected.
At the end of the first year, a report from this supervisor is required for provisional status.
During the second year, you will need to prepare a selection of materials as outlined in the registration manual for a meeting with the regional panel, aiming for intermediate status. Each recommendation and report must be sent to the Registration Board.
By the end of the third year, you will need to be prepared for a final meeting with the registration panel in order to achieve full registration.
The final step involves sending recommendations to the NZHCA executive for endorsement. For Hospital Chaplaincy members, the outcome will be communicated to the Executive Officer of the Hospital Chaplaincy board.
